The Google Play store is now hosting the official IRCTC Connect application which patrons all over India can employ to search and book train tickets, as well as manage them. Available as a free download, this application follows the release of the BlackBerry 10 version that was outed a few months back.
There are a number of third-party utilities which offer similar services to those of the new IRCTC Connect app, but since this one comes from the Indian Railway itself there are some hopes of passengers getting their bookings done without much effort. Getting train tickets online is always a sloppy process for Indians mainly due to the shortage of servers on the side of the Indian Railway’s main portal.
IRCTC Connect is a 12MB download, and has been revealed to be compatible with devices running Android 4.1 and up. You can use your usual IRCTC logins to get going with your bookings, and if you happen to be a new user, you can register for the first time through the app itself.
Apart from the ability to search and book train tickets using detailed filters, this app even lets you view and cancel them later. It saves your recently added passenger details so that the booking process is faster the next time. And in case you forget about your upcoming journeys – you’re not that forgetful are you? – the app even reminds you of them at the appropriate time.
You can head over to the Play store now to download the IRCTC Connect app on your Android devices. Like we said, it works on smartphones and tablets running Android 4.1 and up.
